January 12, 2021 – The Insider Fix

Insider Fix emails have been providing thousands of my readers with three problem-solving fixes for a couple of months now and allowing them to harvest the benefits of my 1 + 1 + 1 = 10x formula. I hope by sending you this newsletter I can help shift your focus from reactive to proactive and ultimately help you grow both personally and professionally. Enjoy.

Good Morning

A few years ago I read this book called Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod. There’s a lot of motivational and personal development stuff there, about half of which I found super-helpful and the other half not-so-much, but the biggest takeaway from it is that your morning routine is the largest lever to having an effective and productive day. That seems fairly obvious, right?

The book then drills down into the six components of an optimal morning routine. They spell out the acronym SAVERS: Scribe (journal), Affirmations, Visualization, Exercise, Reading and Silence.

As intuitive as this all sounds, and as much of a personal development nerd as I am, it took a reading and re-reading of this book to demonstrate how effective this system is. And it is. I’ve been doing all six on most days for the past decade or so. I can definitely feel the difference in the days I hit all six compared to the days I don’t.

Give it a try.

Audit Thyself

Every legal compliance system needs a checklist and a champion. If you lack one or both, you’re probably going to be paying for legal compliance one lawsuit at a time.

In Audit Thyself, I explain how to put together your own internal legal compliance system, almost entirely without an attorney.

These are a Few of My Favorite Apps

Here are three apps I love:

  • Boomerang – sends e-mails when you want them sent; sends you a reminder (when you want it) to follow up on an e-mail you’ve just sent. It’s pretty amazing how strategic your e-mail game gets with these functions. Works with Outlook and Gmail.
  • OneTab – consolidates all your open tabs in your browser into an index so that you can (a) find them later easily, without having to save them as bookmarks, and (b) save your browser from working too hard in the background when those tabs are open. Works with multiple browsers.
  • Momentum – opens your browser to a motivational picture and quote, including quotes you can add yourself; also has a 25-minute “Pomodoro” focus timer, notes, and bookmarks.
