THE FIX – Dear Diary . . .

By March 19, 2021November 29th, 2021No Comments

THE FIX provides thousands of readers with three problem-solving “fixes”, helping them to harvest the benefits of my 1 + 1 + 1 = 10x formula. I hope by sending you this newsletter I can help shift your focus from reactive to proactive, and ultimately help you grow both personally and professionally. Enjoy.

Dear Diary . . .

I’ve already written about how incredibly powerful journal-writing has been in my life and the lives of my favorite entrepreneurs. Bottom line: it’s transformative; it’s like a steroid for creativity and business growth and personal growth. (Am I overselling it? Impossible! Try it.)

Aside from journal prompts (see above post), the other obstacle I generally hear from folks is “finding the time”. Sounds simple and easy to fix but it’s not. For me, it’s a morning checklist: I “do not pass go” until I’ve brain-dumped into my journal for 5-30 minutes each morning. I’ve also come across a way to compound that effort at least 2-10 times: “The Schultz Hour”. Fascinating. Meaty. Really useful.

I Bequeath Thee . . .

For the life of me, I cannot understand why so many entrepreneurs don’t have wills and trusts. We have insurance policies for our businesses, homes, cars, and lives, even though we keep our fingers crossed and hope we never have to use them. We have policies for the unlikely event our house catches fire; our car gets rear-ended; our storefront or office building gets struck by lightning; we get struck by lightning. We think we need to be millionaires to need estate planning, or we just kick that can down the road, and then keep kicking it until it’s years later and we randomly think of all the bullets we’ve dodged from litigation, or near-death experiences, or near-divorce, or near-bankruptcy and think, “Oh yeah, I should probably do that.”

News flash: It’s not about protecting millionaires. It’s about child-care decisions, and healthcare directives, and financial powers, and tax savings. It’s about death and disability. It’s about asset protection and good planning for your spouse and children and for ensuring that your Harley or that ancient family heirloom goes to the person you want it to go to, the one who won’t sell it right away to pay off their gambling debts.

Nervous Nelly . . .

One way I reduce anxiety is by learning about anxiety. Here’s a great essay I read this week about it: The Evolution of Anxiety by James Clear.
